Spectrum Fantastic Art Live!!!

Hey gang,

Guess where I'll be next week? Where all the cool art nerds will be, of course. In Kansas City, Missouri.

Say WHAT? Why? Missouri? Really?

Ya, I'll be at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live along with the who's who of the fantasy illustration community. I'll be sharing a booth with some guy named Greg Manchess. (whomever the hell THAT is?)

No, Greg is a really good friend of mine and was (and still is) a hero of mine all through out college and beyond. I'm deeply honored to be stinking up his booth with my crappy artwork. ;) I'm doing my best to crank out some new work and finish off stuff that's been on the drawing board for a number of months now. I'll also have prints of some of my most recent illustrations, some of my nudes, and some of my coloring books for Dover.

It's a mix of oils, acrylics and digital.

Nude of the Day Rejects Part 5 -1000 Nudes

Big day today on Nude of the Day. Today I posted my 1000th Nude!

Also, a few months back I had a mini freak-out because I had not oil painted in a long time. I took an evening that I should have been working on my deadlines and decided to do a quick oil study. I used a modified version of the Zorn palette. The Zorn palette is a limited palette of yellow ochre, cadmium red light, ivory black and white, which Anders Zorn used only a few times to showcase how much range one could get from having color and value interact with one another. I think I used a different red and used a sepia brown with an ultramarine blue instead of the ivory black. This was painted from a photograph in an art magazine.

Flowers for Mother's Day

I know I'm a little late with this post, but Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.

I was planning on doing a self-portrait over the weekend. I figured my mom would like that as a present and I can also enter it in the American Artist magazine's self-portrait competition. But I didn't get around to it. Instead Rebecca and I set up a still-life (She has to do some paintings for an upcoming show in Massachusetts):


We spent most of the day scouring Astoria for interesting things to paint. Unfortunately we couldn't find anything so we settled on some flowers. A lot of flowers.


I didn't spend too much time on this. And it shows.


But it was fun to break out the oils.
Plus my mom loves flowers too.


This upcoming weekend I'll do that self-portrait and put up more info on the AA competition.
