Spectrum 14 Annual

First off, i want to apologize for not updating this thing in a long time.

And second, I'm very happy to announce that after 5 years of trying I finally made it into the Spectrum Annual of Fantastic Art. What makes it even more exciting for me is that I'm in the book with a lot of my friends, who are directly responsible for my growth in the last two years. Thank you all who have helped me out and all that have sent their congratulations.

And third, I do not want to make a "yay me" post without any artwork to show for myself, so here is a detail of a painting I'm working on (in progress):

Society of Illustrators - Jazz Sketch - 02.13.07

I'm having some trouble organizing all the watercolors from January 2007 (mainly remembering which models where modeling on which day), so i'll post them all in one big post in the next few days.

Society of Illustrators - Jazz Sketch - 02.06.07

Howdy all, sorry for being absent in 2007. There was a lot of things on my plate starting with a ton of deadlines and freelance work. I also moved to Queens from Manhattan and between searching for an apartment and packing and getting ready for another canceled show up in the Bronx, things just got away from me. I've been in the new place for almost a month now and i still have not totally settled in. I have a ton of watercolors for you that i hope to photograph and organize in early March. But because Alicja asked for it, with what appears to be such urgency, here are some poopy watercolors from the beginning of February:

Society of Illustrators - Jazz Sketch - 12.19.06

The last Tuesday night of 2006 at the SoI. Martina and Julie modeling. Great time.

The Drawing Studio - 12.17.06

Another crazy Sunday at the Drawing Studio. I was up early and had to take the train out because my ride (Lynne Foster) was out of town. I also had to "babysit" Lynne's son, Guy, which wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. We met up with David Hollenbach and Doug Cowan along the way and made it out to Jeff's on time for a change. Most of my drawings sucked until i got some caffeine in me.

these two were done with a piece of charcoal taped to a 5-foot stick which i held tight against my shoulder. This forced me to slow down when drawing and use my whole body in the process. moving along with the stick constantly changes your vantage point on the model which, along with less control over your medium, creates some interesting abstractions.

i'm finally starting to get the whole "5-lbs of Bologna" exercise down.
